Announcing Fredericksburg Grand Opening

FREDERICKSBURG, V.a., Nov. 09, 2020 – Rebellion announced that its newest location in Fredericksburg, Virginia will open its doors to guests on Friday, November 13 at 4pm. Fredericksburg will be the third location for Rebellion which is also located in Arlington, Virginia and Wilmington, North Carolina.

The opening follows an extensive transformation of the 188-year-old building which has involved a full renovation focused on preserving as much of the historic interior as possible. As part of the renovation, Fraser’s Wood Elements restored the existing pine bar top, rumored to be the oldest bar surface in Fredericksburg, in addition to repurposing the building’s beams for bar shelving and the floor planks from the third floor into the back bar wall. Inside the property the second and third level have also been opened to expose the original beams.

“History is a key part of Rebellion. Our basic tenets were formed from the Whiskey Rebellion from 1792-1794 so finding a space that has been part of a community’s local history is important to us. Our buildings in Arlington and Wilmington both fall under Historical Preservation Societies so we were thrilled to find a space in Fredericksburg where we could stay within the tradition of bringing a historic building back to life,” said Rebellion Partner and Founder Brian ‘Wes’ Westlye.

Rebellion’s menu takes a creative spin on Southern-American cuisine while staying true to its whiskey roots by making whiskey a staple ingredient in the dishes. From devilled eggs to candied bacon and smoked wings to award-winning burgers made with a proprietary burger blend, Rebellion Partner and Executive Chef Travis Weiss, explains that Rebellion’s menu is inspired by American heritage.

“Southern-American cooking is an expression of stories. Maybe a dish was passed down from your grandmother or the idea for it came from something you used to watch your father cook – it is all based around community, heritage and memories. Those are things we value at Rebellion and what drives our menu. Behind every dish is a story that brings people together, which for me is what food and drink is all about,” said Weiss.
